4 signs it’s time to replace your driveway

No matter how beautiful your home or property is, if the driveway is in bad shape then it can reduce its overall value and can potentially lead to accidents and damage to vehicles. Recognising when it’s time to replace your driveway is an important first step and any of these 4 signs should let you know:

#1 – Cracks

The odd crack might not seem like such a big deal, but over time they will start to increase and multiply until the driveway becomes completely unusable. Cracks usually start to form during Winter as ice expands and contracts. We recommend checking for small cracks early as there may even be steps you can take to avert the need for a full-blown renovation.

#2 – Potholes

Cracks are one thing, but potholes can cause damage and cause potential injury should someone trip over one in the dark. A pothole is exactly as it sounds, a hole in your tarmac or concrete. As is the case with cracks, it’s worth keeping an eye out as minor potholes can be fixed, but if left to develop into a larger pothole the job becomes much bigger and more expensive.

#3 – Bad Drainage

If your driveway is in good condition then drainage shouldn’t be an issue. If, however, you notice that rainwater often builds up on your driveway it’s a sign that it needs repairing or replacing. It’s possible that standing water can cause more serious damage and lead to a slippery driveway as standing water can result in algae and moss.

#4 – Miscoloured

Sometimes its as simple as noticing that your driveway has become miscoloured, often due to prolonged exposure to UV. This can vary depending on the materials, but a replacement can often really freshen up the look of a property and dramatically improve curb appeal.
