4 Ways Ineffective Drainage Can Cost You

Drainage is a factor that can often be neglected in projects, it’s hard to see how useful it is until it’s often too late. Projects completed during the dry summer months which first appeared sound can often start to show issues when the wetter winter months come round.

Here are 4 reasons that effective drainage should be a priority:

#1 – Property damage

If falling rain, or top water as it is otherwise known, doesn’t have a safe route for drainage it can soon start to build up and cause costly damage to the property in the area. The water will always begin to pool in lower lying areas of your property and can damage the foundations of a building.

#2 – Landscape damage

It’s not just property’s and buildings that are at risk from pooling top water. If the water pools on soil surfaces, such as lawns or fields, it can cause the soil to become soft and muddy and damage any vegetation. This can take a while to repair.

#3 – Damaged concrete or tarmac

Yep, even your concrete or tarmac surfaces aren’t safe from damage. Sustained pooling on concrete or tarmac surfaces will gradually begin to cause damage, such as cracking which can then pose a safety threat.

#4 – Mould and mildew

And finally, when water is pooled anywhere for a long period of time it will start to cause mould and mildew. On the outside of the property, such as a drive this can become very unsightly and cause a slipping hazard. On the inside, it can cause much more damage to wooden structures, creating holes, cracks and weaknesses within the building.

It’s much easier, cheaper and safer to ensure that your property and surrounding lands have an effective drainage solution in place. Find out more about our drainage services here.
