The advantages of hard landscaping

There are two main types of landscaping you may consider for your property; hard and soft. Hard landscaping, as you might expect, uses materials such as concrete, stone and other non-green materials to create a landscaped outdoor area. Many people prefer to choose hard landscaping over soft for a number of reasons that we’ll outline in this post.

Low maintenance

Unlike soft landscaping, hard landscaping requires very little upkeep. There’s no need to water plants and mow a lawn, which can be time-consuming or expensive should you have to hire someone else to do the work on a weekly basis. Of course, you may need to clean or power wash hard landscaping, such as flags, but this is usually an annual task as opposed to a constant requirement.

More functional

Hard landscaping can be enjoyed year-round and isn’t affected by the weather. A lawn can become boggy and unusable in wet weather, whereas with hard landscaping this isn’t an issue. Perfect for those who want to enjoy the outdoors during any season. You may want to incorporate other hard landscaping features that can add real value to your property, such as a drive or car park.

Curb appeal

Hard landscaping, done properly, can look fantastic on a property. Where a soft landscaped can quickly become out of control and look messy without regular maintenance, hard landscaping is effortlessly smart at all times. Flowers, shrubs and trees, if not cared for properly can soon die and need replacing, which in itself can be a costly affair.
