Why local football clubs should invest in artificial pitches

all-weather sports surface construction

Everyone who has ever been involved in grassroots or local football will know that come Winter it’s a nightmare trying to use the pitch. Fixtures are constantly cancelled and training can’t go ahead as it’s too wet or too dark. The answer? Artificial sports pitches.

Now, a full-sized 3G pitch is an option, but for many clubs, it’s unrealistic and for the football purist it’s not the same as playing on real grass. However, it is an option and many clubs are introducing 3G pitches and artificial grass which has a number of benefits, including:

  • Not affected by weather
  • Easy to maintain
  • Good drainage
  • Will not dry out in the sun
  • Flexibility

If a full sized pitch isn’t an option, then clubs can still benefit from smaller 5-aside sized pitches. This can be used during Winter for training sessions and to ensure players stay sharp and match fit even though they are bound to be playing less matches.

The major benefit that most clubs overlook is the ability to use a new 3G all-weather pitch to drive revenue for the football club. When it’s not in use by the team it can be rented out to other players for a fee. Many all weather, 5-aside pitches charge as much as £20 – £30 per hour. A new artificial pitch could be the gold mine that helps push your football club financially.  Whilst many clubs are forking out to use similar facilities, your club could be making the money instead!

5-aside pitches can also have lighting installed to ensure that training sessions can continue throughout the darker months. The possibilities are endless.
